Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), also referred to as acute renal failure, is a sudden and typically reversible medical condition characterized by a rapid decline in kidney function over a period of hours or days. During an AKI episode, the kidneys abruptly lose their capacity to filter waste products and excess fluid from the blood. This leads to a swift accumulation of harmful substances and fluid imbalance within the body, which can result in severe health complications.
Signs and Symptoms:
- Shortness of breath
- Decreased appetite
- Pain on the backside
- Confusion or mood changes
- Swelling in legs, ankles, and feet etc.
Complications:
- Sepsis
- Nerve damage
- Fluid around your lungs
- Congestive heart failure
- Cardiovascular collapse etc.
